The New Lex Luthor: Mark Zuckerberg

Man of Steel

The world was shocked and a bit in confused when it was announced that Jesse Eisenberg would be playing Superman’s arch-enemy “Lex Luthor” in the highly anticipated 2016 sequel to last summer’s Man of Steel.

Eisenberg, who is best known for his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in the acclaimed “The Social Network”, beat out Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston, who was a fan favorite for the role of the notorious supervillian.

According to director Zack Snyder, by casting Eisenberg in the roll, this will allow them to try new things with the characters.

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

I don’t know about you but I kinda hate it when the movie people change popular characters, like Lex. I understand that the comic book world is totally different from the movie world, but you really don’t need to change the entire character.  If it’s a different reality, then I say sure go for it! But don’t just change the character just to make it more interesting.

Needless to say, It’s going to be interesting to see how Eisenberg portrays Luthor.
