Do you know what really “Grinds My Gears?” How stupid Super Bowl commercials have become.

I remember back in the day when we would watch the Super Bowl waiting for the commercials just to see what clever and funny things they come up with. Now, we can watch 75% of them before the Super Bowl even goes live and it’s pretty much a bunch of rich bastards in a pissing contest. Let’s also consider how much it is to get an ad for even a few seconds. The richer you are, the better spot your ad gets and your ad can be a tad bit longer. I mean, yes it was like that in the older days as well, but not to the extent that we have it today. I can safely say that 90% of the ads that aired during the Super Bowl in the last 3 years have not been funny or remotely clever. And the ones that are funny, we don’t really get a chance to see because they are in a spot where we are either flipping to the puppy bowl or using the bathroom. I understand the “higher you pay, the better you get” thing but shouldn’t quality of the ad be a reason in it as well?

There is a certain standard that one comes to expect with Super Bowl commercials and I think it’s about time that it’s taken into consideration. Like if Coke’s ad is like listening to a monotone person while a smaller business is like an episode of SNL during the 2000’s, then the smaller business should get a better spot than Coke.

Moral of the story: Don’t be a greedy bastard, and care more about the quality of the stuff you are putting out for the world to see instead of crappy stuff that rich people with no sense of creativity in them.
