‘Pitch Perfect 3’: Movie Review

Aca-excuse me?

It’s time for us to adventure on one last event with everyone’s favorite acapella group of misfits, the Barden Bellas. “Pitch Perfect 3” is finally heading out of theaters and into our homes. It’s time for me to review it before you spent your hard-earned money on it. So let’s talk about “Pitch Perfect 3.”

“Pitch Perfect 3” takes place two years after the events of “Pitch Perfect 2.” The Bellas reunite to relive the glory days of when they didn’t hate life. The end up touring on with the USO with some sort of competition put on by DJ Khaled. This winner gets to open for him. This is all happening as the announcers from the last two movies are recording them for a documentary on the Barden Bellas. And in Bella fashion, it all starts to go down once Fat Amy’s father returns in her life.

I’m going to be blunt. This movie isn’t any good. It felt more like a half ass attempt to milk money out of the franchise one last time. The plot is all over the place. I don’t understand why there would be a competition during a USO concert tour and why would DJ Khaled want to go on this tour just to have one of them open. I feel like there was an easier and more cost efficient way to find an opening act. There were so many plot holes with this movie.

The acting was the usually goodness. It just wasn’t very funny. Not even Fat Amy was her usual hilarious self. Not one of the characters stood out. They were all kind of written blandly. “Pitch Perfect 3” is pretty much “Pitch Perfect” lite. I expected WAY better than the movie that we got. This wasn’t a proper sendoff for them at all. I could have written off a better sendoff. Actually, “Pitch Perfect 2” was a better sendoff than “Pitch Perfect 3.”

The Verdict

“Pitch Perfect 3” isn’t anything like the first two movies. The thing that made the franchise special isn’t anywhere in this movie. It honestly just feels like they just rushed this movie. This movie is just a shell of what it has been before. It’s good to watch if you have seen them all before. But I wouldn’t recommend this movie. “Pitch Perfect 2”  was definitely the strongest out of the two. Rent this movie instead of buying it, unless you are looking to get the complete trilogy.

Here’s the trailer for “Pitch Perfect 3.” It is out now digitally and on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 20.
