Christina has a new sound and vibe for her “Liberation”
It’s been six years since Christina Aguilera released a studio album. She announced today that she will be releasing her eighth studio album “Liberation.” With that announcement, we also get the gift of her first single.
“Accelerate” is a different style of pop than what we have come to expect from Christina. Produced by Kanye West, the song has more of a hip-hop/R&B vibe to the song. It’s definitely different kind of vibe than Christina’s “Stripped” or “Back to the Basics” albums. It’s not bad on her, it’s just not shown right on this song. The song jumps all over the place with its production. The song just comes across as a mess.
2 Chainz and Ty Dolla $ign are on the song. Ty is helping Christina out of the chorus while 2 Chainz has a rap break before the climax of the song. They don’t really add anything to the song. It’s more like they were on the song to get Christina’s street cred up. If I had to pick one over the other, I would have kept 2 Chainz and got rid of Ty Dolla $ign. He at least does more. Ty is just annoying on this song.
The video for “Accelerate” has no words to describe how atrocious it is. It’s Not Safe For Work and it’s just weird. It’s not even the cool kind of weird. It reminded me of something we would have gotten from Miley Cyrus when she released the god-awful “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz.” There’s even a point where she has glitter on her tongue and mouth like Miley did. Watch the video once and then just stick to listening to the song. It’s an overall better experience.
“Accelerate” isn’t a good song. The production is questionable as it seems rushed with no clear direction. The music video is atrocious. It’s just all over the place and it seems like Christina is just trying provocative. Whoever thought that this would be a good choice for her “comeback” single might have been on drugs. This is the opposite of a good first single. Hopefully, the next single redeems this album.
“Liberation” is out June 15th.
