I recently watched a video on YouTube of Josh Peck and Miranda Cosgrove where they react to old cringeworthy videos of themselves. During this video, they decided to revisit the bop that is Miranda Cosgrove’s signature song called “About You Now.” Since it’s the first Monday of the new year, I thought it would be a trip down memory to go over it. It is turning 10 years old this year.
Leave it all to Miranda
“About You Now” was released in 2009 as a part of an EP of the same name. This was just a promo EP to get Miranda into the music scene. It’s actually a cover. The original band that performed the song was the UK band by the name of the Sugababes. Their version is a little more risque. Miranda toned it down because of she’s a classy Nickelodeon girl. This was the time when those Disney delinquents were going wild. It came during a time where Nickelodeon was making bops and Disney was making just concerned about body shots and salvia.
The song is a nice blend of rock and pop. It starts off nice and rather slow before really kicking into a power pop song with the chorus. It’s like this the entire time and it’s just a good time. One of those songs that it’s a classic. It’s not as good as the original but it’s up there. It is the best single that Miranda has ever done.
The music video is even more iconic. Sure, it’s just Miranda missing her ex in a mall but without her, we wouldn’t know who the hell Diego Boneta is. He’s the heartthrob of the video. He was recently in “Scream Queens” and the movie musical “Rock of Ages.” It’s your standard run of the mill late 2000s video but it’s just so good and a fun time. It’s only awkward when it just Miranda and the band. She just seems so uncomfortable.
The plot of the music video is also slightly stupid because she dumped Diego because she walked out on him just talking to a flirtatious girl. Like jealous much? They end up making up at the end and he gets her a necklace, which is even worst because she doesn’t deserve it. Miranda didn’t deserve Diego at all.
If you haven’t listened to Miranda’s “About You Now,” what are you doing with your life? The entire EP is only two songs: A remix and the standard version. The remix isn’t as much as bop but it’s more of calming bop. I recommend taking a listen. And yes, we are going to ignore the little article I wrote a long time ago. It was just a casual article that included her on a list. I rescind her off that list. Everyone else can stay.
