Top 5ive: Jessica Simpson

After going down the well with my Top 5ive list for the lovely Mandy Moore, I thought it would be fitting to adventure back to Jessica Simpson’s music career. While she goes by Jessica Johnson now and beauty and fashion guru, we all remember how much we loved her on “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” as well as her iconic role of Daisy Duke in the movie “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Jessica is an underrated pop and country princess. To celebrate her, here are her top 5ive singles.

Classic Jessica Sim

5. “Where Are You” Featuring Nick Lachey

We all remember where we were when we heard that Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson announced they were getting a divorce. Behind Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, they were the IT Couple. This song was their first duet. It’s extremely adorable with the vocals being everything on it. The video itself is iconic as it’s literally Nessica, or Jick just be adorable in various romantic locations. It’s a “musical couple goals” video.

4. “I Wanna Love You Forever”

Jessica’s first single, “I Wanna Love You Forever” is probably the strongest single that she released off of her first album “Sweet Kisses.” It really shows off Jessica’s vocals and really set her aside from Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, 2/3 of the Holy Trinity. The video itself is random and weird but seeing Jessica Simpson in a field of sunflower while she hits those high notes is adorable.

3. “These Boots Are Made for Walking”

When you think of Daisy Duke, besides the iconic jean shorts, you think of Jessica Simpson. Her cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking” appeared on the soundtrack for her movie “The Dukes of Hazzard.” The music video is just her in a bar with Willie Nelson while clips from the movie played around it. The song is extremely catchy. It will get stuck in your head. It also came out right after she and Nick ended their marriage. So she sexed up her image with for the role and video. She pretty much became more of a sex symbol.

2. “Irresistible”

“Irresistible” was Jessica’s become a pop sex symbol like her holy trinity members. She was actually the first to really sex up her image. This song came out in April 2001, Britney’s “I’m A Slave 4 U” came out in September 2001, and Christina’s “Dirrty” came out in July 2002. You can thank Jessica for that. The song was extremely well done. It’s honestly one of my personal favorites of hers. “Irresistible” is an underrated bop with a video that slays.

Honorable Mention

“A Public Affair”

Just because “A Public Affair” didn’t make the list, doesn’t mean that we should honor this song because it was ahead of its time. It came off of her fifth album of the same name, the song was different than what we had gotten previously from her. It was more synthpop instead of just Pop with a little flare to it. The video had a rather all-star cast with Christina Applegate, Christina Milian, Eva Longoria, Maria Menounos, Andy Dick, and Ryan Seacrest. It’s just her and her friends having a fun time while dreaming of having an affair with a guy that looks like her ex-husband. “A Public Affair” got a bad wrap when it was first released. #JusticeforAPublicAffair.

1. “With You”

This song is probably Jessica’s best single and it’s for obvious reasons. It’s an anthem for being so in love that with someone that they don’t care if you are dress extremely nice, put on a lot/any makeup, etc. It’s an anthem for letting someone just fall in love with you and how you make yourself to look like. The video itself just shows Jessica living her life and being sexy doing things around her house. There’s even an iconic scene of her seductively eating wings. This video sums up why we all love Jessica Simpson/Johnson.
