Pop Project Featured Artist: Ariana Grande

Grande

Ah yes…Let us discuss one of my favorite people in the world (aside from Demi that is)…Ariana Grande. If you have not yet heard of this 19, soon to be 20 year old powerhouse of talent, then you’ve probably been living under a rock.

Ariana Grande is a singer/actress best known for her role as the redheaded, very “special”, spunky Cat Valentine on the beloved Nickelodeon comedy Victorious.  Grande portrayed the role of Cat on the show from 2010 until the show’s abrupt end in early 2013.

Now….Ariana is no one trick pony, and neither is her hair. She ditches the red locks when she is not playing Cat, and is hard at work on her music career. Let me tell you…this girl can SING. Think voices of angels, mixed with Mariah Carey, and a dash of fierceness and power of some of the oldschool female “greats” in music…That’s Ariana. Don’t believe me? Check out her Youtube channel, “ohsnapitzari”, and take a listen to some of her covers and acapella work, (her “Emotions” cover anyone? Crazyness,), as well as her recent collaboration with singer Mika.

Ariana has recently released her hit single “The Way” featuring Mac Miller.  The song has routinely been in outstanding standing on the charts, as well as received positive feedback and love from mainstream radio play.  Her debut album, reportedly titled “Daydreamin’” or “Honeymoon Avenue” as of recently, is scheduled to drop in August under Republic Records.

Upcoming appearances include Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on June 14th.  As the “Pop Project Featured Artist of the Week”, you KNOW we love her here, and can’t wait for her upcoming projects. And just between us…let’s just say we think she will make our show even more “popular” in the upcoming season… 😉

Pop Project Featured Artist: The Wanted

The Wanted

So this band isn’t really an Indie but they aren’t as popular as they are back in their home of the United Kingdom. The Wanted has been kinda, for a lack of a better word, overshadowed by One Direction in America but have developed a strong fan base and have become the cooler alternative to being a “Directioner”. Musically, they are pretty much what you would expect to hear this day and age (just more in your face kind of beats due to them being from the birthplace of the 90’s Europop movement). The one thing that they offer beside their Europop kind of feel is that they are the honey badgers of the music world.

These guys just do whatever they feel like it and it’s pretty much the reason many people love them. They post videos on their own YouTube channel every Wednesday that shows what they have been up to. They even interact with their on twitter, which not all celebrities do!

If you are looking to listen to some awesome and catchy pop music with some awesome personalities then this is band for you! They are pretty awesome.

Pop Project Featured Artist: Alexz Johnson

AlexzDoes the name Alexz Johnson sound familiar to you? It should if you are a child of the 90s because she was a part of your childhood. Alexz Johnson started in the last season of the hit Disney Channel Original Series So Weird along with the hit The N, or CTV for you all your Canadians, show Instant Star. She also was in one of the Final Destination movies but that’s not really why you are reading this.

Alexz Johnson is one of the most publicized Indie Artist in the world. Her music, depending on the albums, can range from rock music to folk pop. While she isn’t sign to a major record company, that hasn’t stopped her as she lives her dreams of making music her way. She even used sites like Kickstarter to get her fans involved in help her make music. She even released the demos of most songs, which most artist don’t even do.

Her music is written by her and her brother/partner in crime Brendan Johnson. Here is some of the songs your listening pleasure:

The Bottom line: Alexz Johnson makes wonderful music and you should check her out if you are looking for a change in music or just want to listen to something new.

Pop Project Featured Artist: Steven Skyler and Secret Sky

1

secretsky pop banner      Steven Skyler has been around  since he burst onto our television as one of the few unnamed warblers that sway and danced behind Darren Criss on the Fox’s hit television show “Glee” in 2010. Then he started to save the world as Gold Samurai Ranger on “Power Ranger: Samurai” and “Power Ranger: Super Samurai”. Now he started a band and is singing his way into America’s heart. His band, Secret Sky, recently released their first single entitled “The Secret” and let me tell you-Oh.My.Godness. This song is a tad predictable with its progressions but it’s definitely an extremely good song. It’s one of those songs that you just can’t help but listen to it on repeat. I purchased it on iTunes and I’ve basically been listening to it for the past 15 minutes on a loop. The lyrics are really well done as well. It’s not like any of the songs that we heard lately lyrically. The words Skyler are big and meaningful-which I like. It’s listed on iTunes as in Alternative genre but I feel like it’s more of the Pop Rock, Rock genre. The song is good if you are looking to set a romantic atmosphere or just want to relax.

Steven Skyler and his band, Secret Sky, get 4/4 Rachel Berry gold stars! FOUR FOR YOU GLENN COCO! YOU GO GLENN COCO!!!
