Taylor Swift and Katy Perry make up in ‘You Need to Calm Down’

It’s official! A new Taylor Swift era is upon us. Announced on Thursday, June 13th, Taylor would be releasing her seventh studio album “Lover” on August 23. With this announcement, Taylor also blessed us with the second single off of the album entitled “You Need to Calm Down.” And in Taylor Swift fashion, the song made people feel many things.

Can you not step on my gown

“You Need to Calm Down” is a pop song produced by Taylor and Joel Little, who also worked with her before on “ME!.” The song has an electropop feel that honestly came off as a Carly Rae Jepsen song at first. It has this retro 80s vibe to it. At first, I wasn’t feeling it. But it grew me the more I listened to it. “You Need to Calm Down” is light years better than “ME!” “ME!” isn’t a bad song but it wasn’t up to par with what we usually got from Taylor. Her first singles typically tend not to be as good as the other singles, it just was average.

Lyrically, the song is about dealing with homophobia and people that feel the need to be critical of you without actually knowing you. It’s a song to her internet trolls, and the people are just plain assholes. I like the lyrics. It’s nice to see her do a some like this where it’s just not the average Taylor Swift song about love. While her love songs were great, you can only do so many love songs before it gets overdone.

The music video for the song is probably one of Taylor’s best videos. Her video is always something else, but this video is close to “Bad Blood” level of good. Pretty much, the video is Taylor in a big LGBTQ trailer park living her best life with a lot of famous LGBTQ neighbors. While she and her friends are just having fun, there a bunch of protesters and people hating on them for doing absolutely nothing wrong. The video ends with two protesters leaving and joining Taylor and company during a food fight. The biggest thing out of this video is that KATY PERRY IS IN IT. Her and Taylor hug it out as a hamburger and fries, respectively.

My love for this video knows no bounds because it’s just super fun and shows Taylor using her platform to show support for LGBTQ. There’s even a cute little plug for Taylor’s petition to keep the Equality Act, a piece of legislation that would offer protection for LGBTQ from being fired because they are LGBTQ. Billboard wrote an article about Taylor and the Equality Act. The video came out during Pride month and is just a fun video that covers a serious topic. Again, my love for this video and Taylor Swift knows no bounds.

I highly recommend listening “You Need To Calm Down” and watching the video for it. It sets the tone for what to expect from her newest album “Lover” as well as it’s just a fun Pride/pro-LGBTQ video and song. This song has me more hyped for “Lover” than “ME!” did.

Selena Gomez’s heart gets her in-trouble in the video for ‘Back to You’

Selena Gomez isn’t tired of the same old love

It officially the start of the era for Selena Gomez…again. Yesterday, the former Disney actress delivered the music video for her song off of the soundtrack for her show “13 Reasons Why.” It’s been awhile since Selena released a music video for one of her singles. The last one was for her song with marshmello called “Wolves.”

The video for “Back To You” follows suit with how she made the videos for “Bad Liar” and “Fetish.” It’s extremely artistic and tells a story that adds to the overall story that the song is telling. It’s pretty much Old Selena meeting the new classier Selena. You get the classic sound with the storytelling that has made her two videos up there with her past work.

Because it is an artistic video, it is a little too much to grasp in the first viewing. It’s going to take a while for you to soak up the tea that Seleners is spilling in this video. She is spilling soo much tea that it’s not even funny. The video is about Selena being at a party with one boy, a boy that looks like The Weeknd. She ends up sneaking off with another bad boy, who looks like Justin Bieber. The two steal a car and end have a picnic. She soon realizes that her new boy is wanted by the police and that he isn’t worth going to jail for. They end up going back to the party before doing it all over again.

The video itself isn’t bad, just leaving you wanting more. Either way, I’m all for this new Selena era. I want more from it whether it’s like “Bad Liar” and “Fetish” or this one.

Demi Lovato and Christina Aguilera fight patriarchy in ‘Fall in Line’ video

Demi and Christina aren’t putting up with shit anymore.

After performing the song at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato have blessed us with the video for their collaboration “Fall in Line.” The song was originally released last week to overwhelming reviews, mainly for Demi’s high note that will cause you to freak out.

Off of Christina’s upcoming album “Liberation,” “Fall In Line” is an anthem for female empowerment. The video for the song also portrays that. It features both Christina and Demi being captured and forced to perform in front of cameras for mask men. Towards the end of the video, both of them are able to sneak out and be free from the oppression.

The video feels like “Confident 2.0.” In case you forgot, here my review of Demi’s video, Demi was a secret agent hired by a man to take down another female agent. Both eventually turned on him and took their benefactor out. This video had a similar feel to it. Especially towards the end when both Christina and Demi were being extremely sneaky to leave the compound. This video is also a reminder that you shouldn’t mess with Demi. It’s easy to forget that she likes Mixed Martial Arts and that she could even make Nick Jonas cry for his mommy. You’re welcome for that imagery.

It looks me a long time to like “Fall in Line.” It’s definitely better than “Accelerate.” Of course, anything is better than that. I still have nightmare from it. “Fall in Line” is certifiable bop. The video tells a story but could have been better. But it does make the song better than without it.

Liam Payne and J Balvin get sexy in ‘Familiar’ music video

Liam Payne and J Balvin released the steamy video for their latest song

It only took five singles but we finally have a music video that has Liam Payne with his shirt off. That’s right, we finally have the video for his single with Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin.

The video for “Familiar” is pretty much everything that one could have only dreamed of when listening to the song original. The video features Liam and J Balvin having a good time in Miami. They start off on the roof where Liam gets down shirtless as the dancers compete against each other. It quickly then goes into the club where Liam puts his shirt back on, gets some backup dancers, and bust out some rather good-looking choreography. During all this, J Balvin is pretty much just standing around like he owns the place, which he probably does.

The video is probably one of the best videos that Liam has put out. While it doesn’t really have a plot to it, it does follow the lyrics extremely well. The video offers more to the song than what one originally got from just listening to the song. I just really want to know why they didn’t have the dance off in the club and not on the roof. Also, how did they get the car on the roof?

Overall, the music video for “Familiar” is a fun video that allows Liam to continue to grow as an artist and show he’s more than just a pretty face with nice vocals. I cannot wait for his album to be released just to hear what else he has to offer.
