Shows that should be left alone: ‘Charmed’

The Power of three will set you free

It looks like they are going to be making a reboot of “Charmed.” sigh. For those of you that have never seen the show “Charmed,” shame on you! Go to Netflix and binge watch that show. When you are watching it, just ignore the theme song because it’s not the original one. “Charmed” was a supernatural show that feature three, technically four, sisters that happen to be extremely powerful witches. Together they are the Charmed Ones, or “The Power of three.” It follows their lives as they stop evil and try to be normal. “Charmed” doesn’t need to be rebooted.

So our beloved “The CW,” is going to be making the “Charmed” reboot in this modern-day. According to the C-Dub, is going to be “a standalone show.” It will follow three sisters that discover that they are witches. Does it sound familiar? Because it’s literally the premise of the original series. Most of everything they are doing for the reboot, is taken from the original series.

The part that confuses me, and this will have part will contain spoilers, how is there a new “Power of Three” when the original ones are still alive? The new sister of three have the same heritage as the OG three, but it doesn’t follow the lore “Charmed.” The new show is obviously following that lore. We are probably just going to say that it’s in an “alternative universe.” Everything seems like it happens in a ‘alternative universe” these days when it comes to reboots.

There really isn’t a reason to reboot the show because frankly, it’s timeless. If the reboot was just an continuation of the show like “Fuller House” or the new season of “Roseanne,”it would be totally fine. To ignore the original series and rewrite it all like it didn’t happen because that’s what they are pretty much doing.

Just do the world a favor “The CW” and don’t reboot “Charmed.” If you decided to still reboot, and you are, please just make it an continuation of the original. It would be nice to have the original actors involved in it.

Here’s the trailer for the original series first three seasons. I highly recommend watching it:

Shows that should have been left alone: Transformers

transformer sm

This one has been something I’ve been trying to cook up for months, especially when I heard they were going to milk another movie out of the franchise that really should have ended when Shia LeBeouf left. It’s time to chat about the movie franchise that is based off a cartoon franchise that is based off of a toy franchise that came out of the minds of Japanese toy makers that were probably high off their mind.

[insert gif of “Transformers” that isn’t one of Megan Fox trying to act. Literally that is majority of the good “Transfomers” gif, which is just sad]

Let’s get something out of way right now. I have no problems with the cartoon or television franchise as those are actually good. But when you take cartoon about race of robots from another planet that can transform back and forth between being a car and being a robot and turn it into a live action movie, that’s when I’m like:

When you place a fictional cartoon universe, there’s usually some tweaks to where you can ‘okay, I can slightly see that happen.’ Perfect example of this is what they did with “The Smurfs.” They introduced the little blue people as coming into our world via a portal. Sure, we all know that it probably wouldn’t happen but it explains how it could happen. But how do explain why they chose to be cars of all things? Like there are plenty of other things they could be that would so much better than a freaking car. They could have been planes, jets, a ship, or even a rocket?

I get they are trying to blend in here on Earth but I mean c’mon. How many people wreck their car  a year? And out of those totaled/crashed car, how many Transformers died? Did they not know that cars aren’t something that usually have a long lives on Earth because people are idiots when driving? No one apparently did their research on it. And it’s also stupid for the Transformer to let someone total them just because they are undercover.

The franchise is also ruined by how much damage/chaos. While there are two sides of Transformers that are literally at war, this movie is extremely violent and bright flashing lights. Who wants to watch that? There’s also a radical change in all the characters that make them look either freaky or just scary af. Between the scary Transformers, the explosions that are just too much, and flashing lights that make you feel like your in a rave, the movie is just too much over the top. And don’t get me started on the script and the acting.

Also, in what universe would Shia LeBeouf bang Megan Fox? That right there is just plain fiction. I’m not trying to say that it could never have but it’s just that would be very unlikely to happen. Especially in high school. If they would be out of high school, then it would be a little bit more believable. It would be a little more believable if it wasn’t Megan Fox. She’s just too attractive to be with anyone that doesn’t look like they spent 24/7 at the gym. Yes, I’m being shallow and judging a book by their cover but this is supposed to take place in high school and that is how high schooler thing/act.

As a cartoon and toy franchise, “Transformers” is extremely good. But it should have never been made into a live action movie. It would have looked a little better if they would have explained the plot more and made it more realistic approach. It also could have been way better than without the massive amount of explosions and flashing lights. Pretty much, it would have been way better as a cartoon and not a live action movie.

Shows that definitely should have been left alone: The Powerpuff Girls

newppg

Recently, the cartoon network decided to get on the bandwagon of remakes and made a new series of “The Powerpuff Girls.” Apparently they didn’t read my article on the subject before  they did it.

The show features all the original actors from the 1st series, but not the powerpuff girls original actors. So the nostalgia aspect but it’s quickly lost once you see the opening credits are the same, and the girls talk. The stories are also watered down and not as good as the 1st series. It’s very reminiscent of how “Teen Titans Go!” was like the original series but was instead a watered down story that didn’t even do the original justice.

I would have rather watched “Powerpuff Girls Z” than this show. That show wasn’t trying to be like the original but rather its own take on the characters. That I can respect but this show is just a sad attempt on the series. If you are looking for nostalgia, the original is on Netflix and you could probably find them on YouTube.

Hopefully, this is the last time I have to write this. JUST LEAVE THE POWERPUFF GIRLS ALONE!

Movies that should have been left alone: Bring It On

bring it on

This movies series is pretty much the greatest movie franchise that has ever happened to cheerleading. The “Bring it on” franchise is probably the most well-known among people ages 18-28. When the first movie debuted back in 1999, it was pretty much awesome as one can get and made everyone that saw it (both women and men) wants to be a cheerleader. But it was went the sequel came out that it started to become “that” franchise.

While “Bring It On Again” and “Bring It On: All or Nothing” are the strongest, and less stupid, in the franchise, other two (Bring It On: In It to Win It and Bring It On: Fight to the Finish) are just plain painful to watch. It was pretty much like they ran out of ideas and decided to pull straws and go with winners idea.

“In It to Win It” was just a pile of unbelievable crap that they tried to make us believe (i.e. Rival cheerleaders have cheer battles in the middle of the night. Who does that in real lift??). And let’s not forget about the elephant in the room that no one wants to mention – they stole the premise of “West Side Story”. They have two cheerleaders squad, who just happens to be named the Jets and the Sharks, fall in love but their love is forbidden because they are from rival squad. You might as well have named the movie “Bring It On: The Rumble”. While it’s a cooler name, it also gives a nod that you stole the plot of a beloved musical, crapped on it, and tried to pawn it off as your own.

I’m not even going to trying to comprehend or explain “Fight to the Finish”. I’m pretty sure that it only happened because it was went Christina Millian was still important somewhat (the movie probably is what killed her career).

The main flaw with this series, besides the stupid plot, is that it tried to take itself too seriously. If you look at the first three movies, especially the first one, it didn’t try to act like it’s not a comedy about cheerleading. It was that element that made the first one hilarious (remember the spirit stick scene and the opening scene?).  If they decided to make a sixth one, I would recommend a back to basic (aka like the first movie). Because I’m in a massive need for a comically funny movie about cheerleading.
