Why should you care about Vero

You can never have too many social media apps they said

It’s been awhile since we talked about the different apps that are popping up out of nowhere. I thought it was time to bring this back in order to know what the hell we are getting ourselves into if we were to sign up for it. There’s a new social media on the street and it’s called “Vero.” Yep, it’s just another app to become addicted to.

What is Vero?

Vero calls itself “an ad-free social network that let’s you be yourself.” It launched in 2015, and it’s like Instagram to a certain degree. You can post photos, text, and share URLS, which is links to site for the people that don’t know. You can also recommend books, TV shows, and movies. All the connections that you make on the app, you can actually set how you know them. You can set it to close friends, friends, follower, or acquaintances. Based on what you list them as, you can choose what post they can see and what post they can see. It’s pretty much like Instagram but seems less broke. Instagram recently has just been one big hot mess.

Vero is just one of the many apps that have tried to reach out to the users that have are over the shit that they have got on all the other social media apps. There just really haven’t been anything keeping those apps there due to either not being able to keep the attention of the users like everything else.

If you are looking to try this app, be one of the first million to get it because it seems that you will have to pay for it. Yep, there’s going to be an annual subscription fee. sigh. There’s also a lot of stuff going around that in their terms there is a section that let’s them use or sell your content that is posted to the app. You also won’t get any for your trouble either since it will royalty-free.

Is it worth it?

Overall, it doesn’t seem like a bad app. I would look more into before you jump into the trend of downloading because your pissed off at Instagram. The part that is a turn off for me is that it’s all royalty-free content selling or use. Vero is available in the app store for iOS and Android users. If you are a window phone user, drop that phone and get a real one.

What the app? Sarahah

Welcome back to another edition of “What the App?” It’s the place where I look up apps and then tell you about them because I’m a good person. On this edition, it’s time to dive into the world of your friends not having a backbone and telling you things to your face.

So you are probably reading the name of this app and going “Is that some sort spelling error? WTF is that kind of name?” No, it’s not a spelling error. The actually name of the app is called “Sarahah.” Pretty all it is a place where people can leave you anonymous  messages to people. The official tagline of the app is “Sarahah helps you in discovering your strengths and areas for improvement by receiving honest feedback from your employees and your friends in a private manner.” So pretty much, the app let’s you be shady as fuck. Instead of just being like “Hey man, you really need to work on X,Y, and Z,” the app allows you to say it as “you suck.” You let your true feeling just flood in.

Teen as also use this app to send each other inappropriate messages about sex and to bully people because bullies are all the rage in 2017, there’s even one elected into office. Can you picture the comments if Trump had a “Sarahah?” It would probably be up for a couple of minutes before the death threat just poor right in. Please note, that I’m not saying you should send death threats nor do I support death threats. It just something that’s going to happen when you have an anonymous forum for someone who’s isn’t well likes for most of America.

This app is pretty much going with the notion that “it’s okay to say things to people and be mean about it as long as you are hiding behind a screen and monitor.” While I really hope that this wasn’t the intentions, the app itself wasn’t a good idea. I get it was used as a way to remain anonymous when talking about mistreatment in the work place, which is fine, but it’s because of that anonymity that makes it’s not okay. If teens, people in general, think that there isn’t repercussions for the comments they make online because everything they say on there doesn’t have their name and there isn’t a way to track them.

Hopefully, this taught you more about the app known as Sarahah. It’s not a horrible app, just one that should have been thought out more before the release.

What the App is This? FaceApp

Looks like we have another app to go viral and become popular. sigh. On this edition of “What The App is This,” it’s time explain what the hell this app called “FaceApp” is because I have no fucking clue and you probably don’t either. So let’s find out what the hell this app is that is apparently ruining lives.

In case you don’t get the gif, that’s Shonda Rhimes on Patrick Dempsey body because Shonda will kill characters that you learn to love and want to be happy. Shonda ruin lives like Regina George. Anyways, “FaceApp” is an app that allows people to transform your face into different filters. You can make yourself smile, look old, see what you would look if you were the opposite gender, etc. Pretty much, it lets you change your face without having to pay out the butt and make an appointment to “see the dentist” aka the plastic surgeon.

That’s pretty much all the app is. All it does is let you change your face with the help of filters. There’s isn’t anything else to it….besides the fact that it’s becoming very controversial. This app is getting racist. There’s are tweets of the filter called “hot” bleaching the skin of non-caucasian people. So it’s pretty much just telling people that they aren’t “hot” unless they are white. Luckily, the filter has been removed or renamed to something stupid. “Spark” is the name. Ummm, that’s lame.

The app has also sparked questions about whether or not the app is safe for privacy. According to people who installed the app, it requires you to give permission to things besides your camera and photos. Apparently, it needs permission to access stuff like your internet/network connections, receive data, and preventing your device from sleeping. While the other things are slightly understandable, why does it need to prevent your device from sleeping? Is it watching you like your microwave? Or do they think that they are just being helpful in case you are waiting to fuck up your friends face without looking before your phone’s screen does dark? I know from person experience that if you touch the screen right away, then it will wake up to the screen without unlocking your phone. My mind was blown too by that!

So pretty much this app is adding to the culture that “FaceTuning” created, which was another app that allowed people to take out the imperfections of their face, and tried to put a spin on it to where it was comedic but misses the mark because what is featured as the filters. The filters kind of suck. The technology is amazing but it could have been used in a much better way.

Hopefully, this helps explain “FaceApp” more so you know whether or not this app is something you want. #NoJudgement if you do want it.

What the App is this? Flipboard

flipboard-sm

It’s been awhile since we did this but it’s time again to explain “What the App is this?” If you don’t get the joke, it sounds like what the F*** is this. Some people find that funny. If you aren’t that kind of person then this isn’t the blog for you. Anyway, on this edition, I’ll be sharing to you what this app/site called Flipboard is. Oh, this isn’t a paid advertistment for them….unless they would like it to be *wink*

If you are reading this on “Flipboard” then please continue reading it so I can feel better. But for those who aren’t, Flipboard is pretty much an application that combines all the stuff you want to know about with your social media. The app then presents it’s in a magazine style. It’s actually a really cool app, one that I use almost every day for both personally and professionally.

You select the topics that you care about hearing news from. This could be anything from actual news, Apple Products, Music, Entertainment, Social Media, etc. You name it and there is probably something covering it. This will pretty much make up the major of the content that you will see. You can also create your own magazines and fill it with post that you find interesting. Other users can see these and “flip” the post in there own magazine, like the post, and even make comments on it.  You can also create your own post which will show up in the overall category. It’s pretty cool.

Flipboard running on iOS. Isn’t pretty cool?

The best part of the app is they it let’s you see a bunch of different things that you normally wouldn’t see if you were just looking in a search engine. There just so much content on Flipboard, you will literally never find content that won’t interest you. There’s always something cool and new in the pages, so to speak. It’s present in a really cool way. Everything looks like its in a magazine and it just looks really nice and crip – including your social media.

I recommend Flipboard to everyone, especially if you would like to see content on the topics you love, plus your social media, in all one place. And if you are looking for more interesting content, feel free to check The Pop Project: with Steven Kaufman’s magazine on Flipboard. Click here to view the awesomeness.
