In honor of the Spice Girls reuniting for a tour of the UK starting next may, I thought it would be a good idea to sit down and watch their movie “Spiceworld.” Yep, that’s right. There was a Spice Girls movie. Unlike the tour, it has all five spice: Baby, Posh, Scary, Sporty, and Ginger. You won’t be able to see any of those in your kitchen cabinets. Side note: it was a miss opportunity that no one made a spice girls spice rack.
Released in 2007 and in the middle of their success, “Spiceworld” was directed by Bop Spiers. You probably never heard of him as this was his most high-profile film. #Hipster. The movie follows the Quintet as they plan for their major concert. That’s the major plot of the movie. There’s also a small subplot about them trying to balance their lives as Spice Girls and having a small resemblance of a normal life.
The movie is full of comedic moments like dream sequences, as well as some flashbacks. The acting in the movie is okay. The Spice Girls aren’t really actors bu they do an okay job. They are just portraying their Spice personas so it’s not like it’s super hard for them since they are doing it all the time.
If you are looking for an oscar worth film, then you will be highly disappointed with “Spiceworld.” This is for of a feel good movie that you would want to watch when you are down or just looking for a good time. This movie is extremely corny and not one you would want to take too seriously. If you take it seriously, then you hate this movie.
Music was all the songs you would have head from them on the radio at the time. They had only released all but their last album “Forever.” Most don’t realize that the Spice Girls only have three studio albums and a greatest hits album under their belts. I didn’t. But the musical and comedic numbers are the truly highlights of the entire movie. It’s want will make you love the movie because they are iconic.
“Spiceworld” is classic campy 90s movie. Like I said before, if you take this movie too seriously then you will hate it. It’s not ment to be taken seriously but just a good time. I recommend watching it at least one time if you haven’t already. It will spice up your life. Get it?

The British pop group that brough girl power in the late 1990s is coming back but not like how it was. The Spice Girls are reuniting after months of speculation…it’s just going to miss two members of the quintet that “Spice Up Your Life” with the rebirth of the British Invasion.
The group will be made up of Mel Brown, Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell (Scary, Baby, and Ginger Spice respectfully). Victoria Beckham and Mel Chisholm aren’t going to be apart of this reunion due to both doing “other ventures.” This is media talk for “we too old for that ish.” I know what you are thinking: How can it be a reunion if it’s only three spices out of five? Well this is actually a very common things. Most of the time, they get a new a name but it’s not like the Spice Girls to make sense. They will be actually looking for two new members to join them for this new tour. Not the reunion tour we would have wanted but it okay.
How did this start you may ask? Well, I’ll tell you. It started with this video that the trio posted as it was the 20th anniversary of their first single, and one of their biggest hit, “Wannabe.”
From the sounds of it, it sounds like a Spice Girls Tribute/Cover band. I don’t think this is a very good idea if they are singing the hits, which they haven’t said if it’s the band is back together full-time or it’s going to be like the last time they returned (one tour). I get that they want to give the fans what they want but the fans want all five spices. It’s like getting a half of your favorite drink. It’s still good but it’s not as enjoyable of it. I don’t see this being that great as it seems. If it was all five spices then it would be the best.

You told us what you want, what you really really want! So we are giving you what you want, what you really really want. You really wanted to walk down memory lane with a Top 5ive of the girl group that brought girl power—Spice Girls. Fun fact: The girls wrote the majority of their songs. Here’s the Top 5ive countdown of Spice Girls:
5. 2 become 1
It’s the Spice Girl’s sex song. It’s a song about getting laid….and using protection. I bet you didn’t realize that until now. It’s the sexiest yet cleanest song about sex ever. The music video was also pretty cool. The girls singing and moving slowly as the fast pace world moves around them. See the metaphor yet? I know, that was deep for 1996.
Yes, it’s a song after Ginger Spice left. And yes, it’s an amazing song. The vocals on the song are killer. It was their “goodbye” to the fellow spice. The lyrics tug on your heart-strings as they sing “no, no, no, no” beautiful as the hook. The music video is beautiful as well. “Goodbye” is the breakup anthem of the late 90s for friendships and relationships.
3. Spice Up Your Life
It’s the unofficial anthem of the Spice Girls. It’s just one of those feel good songs that you just get up and dance to and chant with it like you are in a cult. No one is really sure what the words mean nor what the words are, but you just can’t help but sing a lot. It’s also the unofficial theme song of their blockbuster movie “Spiceworld.”
The song is iconic. It’s the first single they ever released. It took the world by storm and had them wondering what does it mean to “ziga ziga ah.” According to UrbanDictionary, the term “ziga ziga ah” means things of sexual nature….let’s just pretend we never found that out. Anyways, it’s the song that everyone knows and everyone sings along to. It’s pretty much everyone’s jam.
1. Viva Forever
This is the song that showed a more serious side of the Spice Girls. While the music video sucked, the song is the signature song on the group. It’s so signature that they used it as the title of the musical based off of their music. It was also the last single to have Geri Halliwell, better known as Ginger Spice, before her departure in the Spring of 1998. It’s very fitting for that as well because of the song’s theme of Friendship.
Since I figured out that Zayn is/was the Ginger Spice of One Direction, I thought that we might as well match up the rest of the members to their Spice Girls Counterparts. Now, we are matching up the Spice Girls and the Direction boys based off of how they act, dress, etc. It’s not based on talent because let’s be real: Liam and Harry are the lead singers of the band like Sporty and Scary Spice are. So here is our match ups:
Liam Payne and Posh Spice
Liam and Posh are pretty much the same person. They are the mature ones of the group but can let their hair down when they need to. They dress to impress and is always looking to make people “man, that’s a beautiful person.” Both are extremely ridiculously good look so it’s no wonder they are alike.
Niall Horan and Baby Spice
Niall and Baby Spice are alike because both are considered to be the “baby” of their respective groups (hence why she’s Baby Spice). Both are viewed as being innocent, especially Niall as he is the only non tatted member of 1D. They also look younger than they are.
Harry Styles and Scary Spice
I’ll be completely honest, they only thing they have in common is their hair…and that their names rhyme. Harry and Scary Spice’s hair game is insane. Harry’s hair looks like he constantly keeps looks like a wet saggy dog while Scary Spice’s hair sometimes looked like horns. If they were to make a baby, that baby’s hair would be long and insane.
Zayn Malik and Ginger Spice
Zayn and Ginger Spice both left their groups. We wrote an article on the topic already so read it here.
Louis Tomlinson and Sporty Spice
Louis and Sporty are very athletic and seem to be the most adventurous. They can also be pranksters of the group. That pretty much nails the two on the head.
