Too Much promotional singles is a bad thing

itunes

In this day and age, when artist announce new music, it goes up for pre-order. This places an order for the fans so they don’t have to worry about purchasing all the promotional songs released to hype up the album and the album will be cheaper by the time it comes out (because the promotional singles are already bought when they come out.) But does releasing promotional tracks off the album as a teaser really help with the sales or does it really hinder the success of it?

Back in the day, artist would just release the first single off the album for general consumption and maybe another song in parts. The first single would be all that we had unless we got the single CD then that might have another brand new song, which wasn’t usually on the album. Then when the album comes out, we would listen to the album in its entirety and enjoy everyone moment of it.

Nowadays, the artist releases the first single and then plan out which songs off the album to release as “promotional singles” from the start date of pre-order to the release date of the album. So if an artist is going to have a 13 song track listing and releases 6 songs from that list as “promotional singles,” that’s half the album already out for consumption. That’s 6 songs off the album that the listener more than likely won’t listen to in the first sitting due to they have all ready heard them. Unless the other songs are off the wall amazing, then the replay value probably won’t be high for average listeners. Do you see where this is going?

Now I’m not telling artist to not release promotional singles because I do think they are helpful towards the promotion of the album and letting the album “speak for itself.” There just has to be a fine line to what is the appropriate number of tracks to pretty much leak. If’s it less than half of the track listing then I say go for it. But it’s just stupid to release half the album. You don’t go see a half a movie before it’s release then watch the other half. If you do, then that is a stupid ass thing to do (not to mention illegal!).Why do that with music then? Like everything, it needs to be done in moderation.

Miley Cyrus gets to banging y’all

MileyRae

Guess what got released early via a iTunes stream guys!?! It’s the new MILEY CYRUS CD!! That’s right, Monday was a glorious day for all the smilers out there. With the stream release, it’s now time for our review of the album that the world….okay, the universe…has been waiting for.

Like many people , I was scared for my life because the new Miley is pretty much one scary and slightly disturbing with a mix of sex appeal that she hasn’t had before. The album title,”Bangerz”, itself just sounds like a bad porno title that was rejected because there was no story or flow with that movie and no one would watch. Well, the bad porno movie I just described to you is pretty much this album in a nut shell. But the no story or musical flow is what makes this album pretty much awesome. The album gives you the feel of what’s it like to be in Miley Cyrus’ head- A jumbled up southern mess of awesomeness.

Produced by her new “beau” Mike WiLL Made It, the bulk of the album is good ole dirty southern hip hop, which works surprisingly well with Miley.  At certain points, I felt like I was too white to be listening to Miley Cyrus (which is pretty much the weirdest statement I have stated in my life). The album has it parts of Miley’s pop roots that shows off her vocals. Most of the pop songs are pretty much about her break up with Liam Hemsworth. Miley even gave sampled some past songs like “Push it” and “Stand by me”

This album is pretty much her début album-it’s the new Meet Miley Cyrus. The album gives you a good look into the mindset of Miss Cyrus and the most personal album that she has put out.

What didn’t work?: Nothing actually, this album is a gem!

Ariana Grande makes you say Baby I

BabyI

One thing that Ariana Grande is doing right with her music career is she is taking risks. Doing things that no other artist now has done, or is even capable to do. That being said, THIS SONG IS PERFECT! The throwback 90s sound to this track is reminiscent of her first single “The Way”, and is just so refreshing to hear on Top 40 radio once again. And as many others have before, I’m also going to make the Mariah comparison. I mean those whistle tones?! Name one other artist out right not besides Mariah and Ariana that can whistle tone like she does in this track and “The Way”….Just amazing. “Baby, I” was released July 22nd on iTunes at midnight, and is in the #2 position, meaning that Ariana now has not only one, but TWO songs in the top 20 on iTunes at the moment with “The Way” as well. Ariana Grande’s upcoming album is titled “Yours Truly” and has a release date of September 3rd, and has been three years in the making. Seriously, fans of throwback, authentic R&B/Pop goodness, do yourself a favor and get “Baby, I” on iTunes right now-Like now. It also sounds best when you’re wearing a giant pink bow, but that’s just my opinion.

Ke$ha gets cray-cray

banner pop

There’s a time in an artist second album when they must release their third single. The lovable and glittery miscreant Ke$ha has reached that point in her life with her newest single, “Crazy Kids”.

When I first heard this song on her extremely well done album “Warrior”, It was my favorite song on the album. It’s more mellow compared to the rest of the singles that Ke$ha has released in the past and I like the softer side of K-E-Dollar Sign-Ah. Just by the way the songs starts off, it just sounds like something the you can chill to and it’s hook is catchy (but what Ke$ha isn’t catchy?). Then it just goes to the Ke$ha that we know and love.

Now the single version is way different from the version that is on the album. The single has the one and only will.i.am on it and he “spits some rhymes on it”. This basically ruins the song. Even though he’s on there for like a hot second, it is enough to basically ruin the track. His lines absolutely have nothing to do with the song and it would have been, is, better without it. Granted, Will help Ke$ha write the song and he should have left it at that. Will actually brought something to Britney’s “Big Fat Bass” but this was just “oh, there is will.i.am

Rating: 2 big fat basses out of 5 (the album version was better, actually 5 out of 5)
